The coaches weigh in on the 2007 Old Spice Classic:

JAY WRIGHT [ Villanova ]
“This has been a great experience playing teams that know how to win and know how to put games away. I think it’s a credit to these young guys and their maturity. It’s just been awesome. The quality of teams, the resort, the way it’s run is first-class. It’s really nice. I can compare this to any tournament I’ve been in. I love it!”
KIRK SPERAW [ University of Central Florida ]
“It’s a great tournament. This tournament is going to develop into one of the premier tournaments in the country during the holiday season. We’re proud that we were part of it this year. I think it was a great field. As far as us specifically, we played two top 20 teams in the country to the wire. We had a chance to win both of them. Then we bounced back against a Big Ten team. We have to come out of here with some confidence that we can compete with these types of teams, and yet we need to understand that we can play better and need to play better and need to improve in a lot of areas.”
JIM LARRANAGA [ George Mason ]
“Coming to a tournament like the Old Spice Classic is very important and exciting for our program and university. First, it’s the best competition that you can find anywhere. Three consecutive games we played against a top 20 team. We don’t often get that chance to compete in and against that level. So when you come to a tournament like this, it’s very important that you play well and compete. It’s a great tournament. You’re able to come to Disney World, and spend time with our families at Thanksgiving. We got our two wins. I’ve enjoyed everything.”
SIDNEY LOWE [ N.C. State ]
“The Old Spice Classic is a great tournament. The hospitality has been outstanding, and obviously the festivities are great. The dinner was great. Then the competition; they certainly have some of the top teams in the different conferences. It’s a great experience for our guys.”
DAVE ODOM [ South Carolina ]
“Anytime you can go away for Thanksgiving and be close enough to your home to share the Thanksgiving experience with your family--it’s just great. Virtually all of our players had their families or loved ones with them. Playing three days of great basketball in a venue and an area that is festive and holiday-like, and being on national TV every day, it’s truly cause for Thanksgiving.”
FRANK MARTIN [ Kansas State ]
"It's unbelievable. This is getting ready to become the best exempt tournament that's being held. It's a great place for it, easy to travel to, and has great attractions for schools like ourselves. It has a tremendous following for all the people to come in and support their team and enjoy Disney World, and it's run by a first-class organization."
ED DeCHELLIS [ Penn State ]
“It’s been a great tournament. Obviously we knew coming in that there were going to be outstanding teams. Hospitality has been outstanding. Competition has been great. Everything has been well organized. We were excited about coming. It’s what I thought it would be. It’s a first-class event run by ESPN and Disney.”
TOMMY DEMPSEY [ Rider ]
“The Old Spice Classic has been a great experience. The tournament is so well run and the people have just embraced us. We’ve made some fans over the past few days, just because of how hard our kids have played. We’ve played two big opponents and had chances to win both games.”
